Realizing Automation
by Retrofitting Existing Backhoes

Retrofitting Existing Backhoes

Automation is achieved by retrofitting a control system to existing backhoes without the need to introduce new machinery. Improve efficiency of routine tasks at civil engineering and construction sites with ARAV's autonomous (unmanned) hydraulic excavator RX "Yoisho-Tonyu-kun."

Features of Autonomous (Unmanned) Hydraulic Excavator RX "Yoisho-Tonyu-kun" FEATURE

  • Improved Safety

    Improved Safety

By removing human workers from the task, the risk of accidents and disasters can be reduced. Early adoption also allows for the acquisition of expertise ahead of competitors, establishing your company as an industry leader in safety.

  • Achieving High-Efficiency Operations with One Person Controlling Two Units

Achieving High-Efficiency Operations with One Person Controlling Two Units

By utilizing autonomous operation for routine tasks that inevitably occur on-site, a single operator can manage two machines simultaneously. Reducing personnel for routine tasks allows more time for other construction work and staff training, contributing to improved overall performance.

Safety Initiatives SAFETY

The autonomous (unmanned) hydraulic excavator RX "Yoisho-Tonyu-kun" implements safety measures compliant with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's "Safety Rules for Autonomous Construction Ver. 1.0." We also participated in field verifications by the Ministry to conduct safety demonstration experiments.

Implemented Safety Features

Area demarcation
Area definition using tiger ropes and color cones
Buffer zone setting
Ensuring a buffer zone of approximately 1 meter
Deviation prevention
Automatic stop when moving outside the communication range of the emergency stop slave unit
Deviation detection
Confirmation via visual inspection or surrounding cameras
Area monitoring
Confirmation by remote operators via camera and site supervisors via direct line-of-sight

Accident Compensation Pack for RX

ARAV Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. of the MS&AD Insurance Group, has developed the "Accident Compensation Pack for RX," Japan's first dedicated insurance coverage for construction machinery automation. This coverage promotes safer and more secure automation, contributing to solving social issues and sustainable development through labor-saving on-site construction.

Compensation Details

  • Coverage for third-party damages (personal/property)
  • Coverage for accidents due to operation errors
  • Coverage for issues caused by setting errors
  • Coverage for medical expenses for employee injuries

How the Autonomous (Unmanned) Hydraulic Excavator RX "Yoisho-Tonyu-kun" Works STRUCTURE

ARAV's autonomous (unmanned) hydraulic excavator RX "Yoisho-Tonyu-kun" is a solution that automates the excavation and loading processes of hydraulic excavators. By retrofitting existing electronically controlled excavators, it automates tasks and achieves both improved productivity and ensured safety.

RX Automation

WORKFLOW Autonomous Operation Workflow

By specifying the excavation range and soil discharge location, setting an unmanned area, and automating work after safety confirmation, this system is expected to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

Q

How far do you plan to automate in the future?

A

In addition to "feeding into self-propelled machinery" at release and the upcoming "dump truck loading" update, we plan to support riverbed excavation, large sandbag production, skeleton bucket work, breakers, etc. Eventually, we aim to automate simple tasks at all sites.

Q

How long does it take to train an autonomous operation operator?

A

Anyone capable of basic machinery operation who understands the manuals and app usage can manage it.
We also offer training sessions.

Q

Can subsidies be used for introducing autonomous operation?

A

There are applicable subsidies available. We also offer application support, so please feel free to consult with us.
